‘Mission Domination’- Virender Sehwag after India’s 90-run victory against New Zealand

India are turning out to be a brute force even in overseas conditions. Apart from a few blemishes here and there, they have been clinical. They returned undefeated in all the three series against Australia and now are weaving their magic against New Zealand in the five-match ODI series, which they are leading 2-0. Today, Virat Kohli’s men beat the Kiwis by 90 runs at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Just like the first ODI at the McClean Park, the Men in Blue didn’t allow their opponents to clinch the ascendancy at any point of the match. Now the visitors only need to win one out of their next three games to win yet another overseas series. After India won the toss and elected to bat first, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan put their team in the driver’s seat with a partnership of 154 runs.

India dominate throughout

But both perished after scoring half-centuries. Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayudu also chipped in with useful knocks. However, it was MS Dhoni’s quick-fire 48 from 33 balls that helped India post a mammoth 324 in the 50 overs. Chasing the humungous target, the Kiwis lost wickets at an alarming rate. Most of their batsmen got starts, but neither of them could go on to convert them.

Doug Bracewell turned with a breezy 57 from 46 deliveries and mitigated the damage. Unfortunately, his efforts went in vain. Kuldeep Yadav was India’s star bowler with four wickets for 45 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal also picked up a couple of wickets each. In the meantime, Virender Sehwag, the former Indian cricketer, was delighted by India’s performance.

Sehwag credited the Indian bowling for the incredible performance. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Mission Domination! Another dominant performance and an easy victory for Team India. Fantastic bowling performance in both matches from @imkuldeep18,”
