The Australian cricket team boasts of the leading Test run-scorer and wicket-taker of 2017. Steve Smith scored six tons in 2017, amassing a total of 1305 runs at an average of 76.76. Many opine that the 29-year-old is Don Bradman in the making.

Smith has 947 points in the ICC’s latest update, which is only 14 points below Bradman on the all-time rankings list. This Ashes, he has piled up 604 runs from the first four Tests, which is nothing short of incredible.

The classy right-hand batsman went past the 1000 runs mark for the fourth consecutive calendar year, which made him only the second batsman in history along with Matthew Hayden to achieve the feat. The century in Perth was Smith’s third ton of the on-going Ashes series and 23rd in a career spanning across 110 Test innings.

Falling short of praises for Smith

Mitchell Marsh has come out with rich praises for the Australian skipper, saying that he leads the team exceptionally well both on and off the field.

“I am starting to run out of things to say about him [Smith] to be honest,” said Marsh, praising Smith’s leadership both on and off the field. He is just in incredible form. “The thing I love about it [his performance] is just the way that he leads as a captain. You want your captain to be leading both on and off the field. The way that he does it is unbelievable. We all have such respect for him. Hopefully his form can continue for a long time.”

Australia looking to finish on a high

Australia lead the Ashes series 3-0 and will be aiming to finish on a high note in Sydney on Wednesday. Marsh and Smith enjoyed a 301-run partnership in the third Ashes Test and followed that up with another 85-run stand in the second-innings of the fourth Test which help their side secure a draw.
