In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Mitchell McClenaghan, on Sunday, left Pakistan Super League to return to his home in New Zealand. The kiwi star became the fifteenth overseas cricketer to leave the competition. Apart from 15 players, Peshawar Zalmi coach James Foster has left the tournament too over health concerns.

McClenaghan was playing for Karachi Kings in the fifth edition of the PSL. Despite being one of the most sought after T20 bowlers in the world, he was not a regular member of the team. In fact, the former New Zealand pacer had played just one game for Karachi in which he did not pick any wicket. Karachi, nonetheless, made it to the semifinal where they will take on high-flying Lahore Qalandars.

However, McClenaghan decided against staying in Pakistan for his team’s remaining games and left for New Zealand. He was forced to return home after New Zealand had enforced a mandatory fourteen-day self-isolation for anyone who enters its borders after midnight on Sunday. New Zealand Cricket had also called off their ODI series in Australia for the same reason.

PSL is the only high-profile cricket tournament that is still going on. Last week, the BCCI suspended the IPL till April 15 as a precautionary measure. The ODI series between India and South Africa also suffered the same fate. As far as PSL is concerned, it was cut short by four days. The PCB is also not allowing the fans inside the stadium to watch the games.

Welcome message from wifey

When Mitchell McClenaghan arrived at his home, he was welcomed by a hilarious message. But unfortunately, there was no one to show him the message and he saw it on the refrigerator. The message was from his wife who had left for her parents’ house. Mrs McClenaghan’s message read, “When you start to get frustrated just think.. it could be worse… At least you are not stuck inside with your wife!!”

Amused with the message from his wife, McClenaghan later clicked a picture with it and posted it on Twitter with the caption, “Straight home into isolation, get home to this note from my legendary wife who’s gone to stay with her parents for a few weeks. See you guys in 14 days”
