In the wake of recent events that led to 230 domestic and international, women and men cricketers being officially unemployed in Australia, Mitchell Starc is looking to try his hands at a new profession. In an Instagram post, the Australian fast bowler revealed just that as he posted a picture of himself playing golf at a picturesque golf course.

Of course, many cricketers play golf in their leisure time and it does not necessarily mean that they are changing their profession. In Starc’s case, however, he himself affirmed that he was looking to give golf a go! His Instagram post was accompanied with a caption that read, “Thought I’d better give another profession a go… #unemployed Celtic Manor yet to disappoint.. Absolute treat.”

His fans, who follow him on the social media platform, saw the lighter side of the post and even proceeded to give their own suggestions. Some of the comments read, “Happy to employ you as a tour guide”, “I can get you a part time gig at Subway? Toasted or Fresh” and “Maybe roll the arm over for Manly Cricket Club?”

It seems Starc has found the funny side to the ongoing dispute between Cricket Australia and Australian Cricketer’s Association that has left the cricketing structure in the country in tatters.

Why are 230 Australian cricketers unemployed?

The talks over a new pay deal between the national cricketing body and the ACA broke down and the deadline for them to agree with a new pay and conditions passed without any resolution. Consequently, more than 200 cricketers, including the members of the men’s and women’s cricket teams, have been left unemployed.

The situation has worsened with the cricketers not willing to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cricket Australia. David Warner had earlier said that if the CA don’t acquiesce to the players’ demands, they may be left with no players to pick a team. This puts a cloud over The Ashes, which is set to be held in Australia in November this year.
