Wife of Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc and niece of former legendary wicketkeeper Ian Healy, Alyssa Healy, believes that the upcoming edition of the Women’s World Cup scheduled to start on June 24 at England would be the biggest cricketing event so far.

All eight women’s team from Australia, England, India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Pakistan and New Zealand would lock horns against each other in the round-robin league to eventually determine the semi-finalist of the tournament.

Australian Women currently hold the top spot in the latest MRF ICC ODI Rankings. They are followed by England and New Zealand in the second and third position. India holds the fourth spot in the charts. Australians are also the defending champions of the tournament as they won the last ICC Women’s World Cup which was held in India.

“The World Cup is the pinnacle of our sport. All the matches are pretty crucial, but the one that stands out is the final and having it at Lord’s too makes it pretty special. It is at the back of everyone’s mind but we have a lot of crucial games that we need to win first. Women’s cricket has come a long way and I have no doubt this World Cup will be the biggest one so far,” said Healy according to Indian Express. She further talked about her roots and how she had taken up wicket-keeping after initially intending to be a pace bowler.

Wicket-Keeping wasn’t the first choice for Healy

“I think it was under-10s or under-12s, everyone had to have a go at everything and the first week I was bowling and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I thought I was going to be a mean fast bowler. Come week three, it was my turn to be wicket-keeper and I haven’t taken the gloves off since. That was the end of my fast bowling aspirations. My uncle didn’t mind too much, I think every wicket-keeper is a frustrated fast bowler.” concluded the wife of Mitchell Starc.

New Zealand and Sri Lanka clash against each other to kick off the tournament in Bristol on June 24 while England and India lock horns simultaneously at Derby. Australia faces off against West Indies at Taunton to start their campaign.
