The ongoing edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup has been a big hit. The tournament boiled down a fitting finale between the hosts England and the most popular side – India. Among all the players, the lady who bagged the most headlines was Indian skipper Mithali Raj. From her chilled out attitude of reading a book in the dug out to relaxing with team mates in another fixture – Raj showed that she is the new definition of cool.

Now, her popularity has been confirmed from the fact that she has dominated the social media engagements. Prior to the commencement of the tournament, social media platform Twitter had launched the emojis for the cricketers. As per the recent reports, the emoji of Mithali Raj has surfaced to be the most used one. She is followed by South Africa skipper Dane Van Niekerk and Pakistan skipper Sana Mir.

Aneesh Madani, Head of Sports Partnerships, Asia Pacific, Twitter revealed the same as per the quotes in Zee News. He conceded that the 2017 edition of the tournament has seen more tweets and engagements than any other edition in the history of the game. Talking about Mithali’s popularity on the social media, Aneesh noted that the #MithaliRaj has been trending big time. She tops the list of the emojis by a big margin.

Successful tournament

“It has been a thrilling Women’s Cricket World Cup on the field, and India’s impressive run to the final has supercharged the conversation on Twitter. Already, there have been eighteen times more Tweets with the official hashtag than the last Women’s Cricket World Cup! The Women’s Cricket World also became the first nation vs nation sporting event to have emojis of the captains as a special feature on Twitter,” he quoted.

“Mithali Raj has dominated the leader board with eighty four percent of all captain emoji Tweets mentioning her hashtag #MithaliRaj. With India playing a blockbuster final against England, expect a special, record breaking Sunday on Twitter,” he added further.
