How do you make a year of yourself? Ask the Peshawar-born wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan. The right-handed Pakistani player was nothing but outstanding this year with his stellar performances where he went on to break record after record in the T20 format. Ever since he started to open the batting earlier this year, he has been absolutely sensational. The 29-year old smiling-faced batter started the year 2021 with a bang and ended it a bang.

In T20s this year, Mohammad Rizwan has notched up mind-boggling 2036 runs, which is the first time that a batter has ever reached the 2000 runs mark in a calendar year, in 45 innings with an average of 56.55 and the highest score of 104*. He scored runs at a strike rate of 132.03 and 19 50 plus scores with 18 half-centuries and one century. He struck 196 fours in these games which is also the highest by any batter in T20s in 2021. Out of 45 inns he batted, nine times he remained not out.

Speaking of his stellar run in T20 Internationals, Rizwan scored 1326 runs in 26 inns with an eye-catching average of 73.66. His strike rate was 134.89 and he amassed 13 50-plus scores with 12 fifties and one century. With 13 such scores, he became the batter with the most 50 plus scores in a calendar year. Notably, with 1326 runs he broke the most key record of batter scoring most T20I runs in a calendar year.

No other batter has even crossed 1000 runs with his captain Babar Azam closest to him with 939 runs this year itself. His tally of 119 fours is also the highest achieved by any player in any calender year. With 42 maximums he broke another feat of hitting most sixes in a calendar year with Martin Guptill’s 41 sixes this year now second in the list.

Mohammad Rizwan only second batter after Virat Kohli with over 50 average in T20Is

Enjoying a rich vein of form, Rizwan is now only the second batter in the world to have above 50 average in the T20 internationals. In 87 inns, former India skipper has an average of 52.04 and in just 44 inns, Pakistani star has achieved average of 51.21. Kohli has scored 3229 runs with 29 half-centuries and Rizwan has 1639 runs with 13 fifties to his name. While the 33-year old Indian batter has never struck a century in this format, Mohammad Rizwan has scored one hundred.

Rizwan had a great PSL as well where he was the second highest run-scorer as he amassed 500 runs in 12 inns with an average of 45.45 and highest score of 82*. He was joint-top with Babar Azam for hitting 56 fours while he also smashed four fifties with two fifties coming in the winning cause in the tournament. The icing on the cake came in the final when Rizwan’s team Multan Sultans won the PSL 2021.
