Team India speedster Mohammed Shami has been called up to join the national team in Kanpur to work on his rehabilitation ahead of the 4 match Test series against Australia. Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad confirmed about Shami joining the camp but said he won’t take part in the T20I series against the Brits starting tomorrow.

“The facilities in his hometown are not good enough. That’s why we asked him to come to Kanpur so that the team physio could keep a proper tab on his improvement,” MSK Prasad was quoted as saying by the Sportskeeda. Shami is also expected to miss the one-off Test against Bangladesh early in February. The fast-bowler injured his knee during the 3rd Test against England and didn’t take further part in the series and sat out for the ODI series too.

Shami hasn’t yet recuperated from his injury and that’s the reason he hasn’t been named in the Bengal squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The selectors don’t want to risk him given the balance and stability he gives to the bowling department. He will be a vital cog in the Indian pace attack when they travel to England later in the year to defend their Champions Trophy title.

Shami injured his knee during the 2015 World Cup and missed out on any further action for the next one year or so and the reoccurrence of his injury is surely an unfortunate thing as far as Shami is concerned.

The speedster has all the potentials to become a world class bowler but the series of injuries in his short career hasn’t helped his cause. The team management has been very supportive towards Shami and has always made sure that he is treated well and becomes fit and healthy to represent his nation again.

The Bengal speedster will surely want to make his comeback in the Test series against Australia where he will be vital to India’s chances.
