India defeated Bangladesh in the first Test at Holkar Stadium in Indore. The trio of Indian pacers has yet again given some extraordinary performance in the longer format. But, the star that hogged the spotlight in the series opener was Mohammed Shami, who bagged a total of seven wickets against the Tigers. And, Gautam Gambhir has hailed him as the best bowler in the red-ball cricket across the globe.

After Virat Kohli and Co’s emphatic win over Bangladesh, the former cricketers came out praising Shami for his brilliant effort. Even, the former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar compared him to West Indies great Malcolm Marshall. In the second innings, he bowled a devastating spell and ended up with the bowling figures of 4/31.

Gautam Gambhir opines on Mohammed Shami

After the match, Gautam Gambhir, the former World Cup-winner said that Shami is trying to get a wicket on every ball. It is very difficult for a batsman to face a bowler like him in Indian conditions. However, the Bangladesh team is not that strong, but his performance against South Africa was also remarkable.

“Every ball that he bowls, there is something happening. There is this expectation that he is going to get a wicket off every ball. Not many fast bowlers in Indian conditions have that skill. Every time against any opposition, Obviously you can talk that Bangladesh is not that good an opposition. But look at what he did against South Africa,” Gautam Gambhir told Star Sports.

He also recalled about his fiery spell that he bowled in Vizag against Proteas where the wicket was absolutely flat. Gambhir also felt that the Indian bowlers are not given much credit in comparison to the foreign fast bowlers.

“Look at what he did in Vizag in those conditions which were absolutely flat. We don’t give enough credit to the Indian fast bowlers. We always talk about foreign fast bowlers. But for me, this is a pure exhibition of manners,” he added.

According to him, the West Bengal pacer will be lethal with the pink-ball in the Day-Night Test. Gautam also referred Shami as the pacer in red-ball cricket. “At the moment, colour doesn’t matter to him. Give him the yellow ball… give him the pink ball… he is going to be the leader of the attack. He probably is the best red-ball bowler in the world.” in the further explanation former Indian cricketer said.
