The nationwide lockdown due to Coronavirus outbreak has left the migrant and daily wage labourers helpless. Some of them are rather walking the whole way to reach their homes even as the respective governments have urged them to not worry and will be taken care of. Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami, on Tuesday, revealed an unfortunate incident stating that a labourer travelling from Rajasthan to Bihar fainted near his home.

He went live on Instagram to interact with his teammate and India led-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal on April 14. The duo were involved in a long conversation and spoke about a lot of different aspects including the current worrisome situation across the world.

While speaking about the same, Mohammed Shami told Chahal about the labourer who fainted and how the pacer saw him from the CCTV camera in his home. Soon after seeing him fall down, Shami lent a helping hand to the worker and provided him food.

I am trying to help as much as I can, says Mohammed Shami

“He was coming from Rajasthan. Just imagine he is supposed to go to Bihar which is so far from Lucknow too. He has no means to commute and I saw in my home CCTV camera that he fainted in hunger and was close to my door. So I provided him with food and helped him out,” the 29-year-old said.

Mohammed Shami also informed that he is doing his best for the poor and needy during this crisis time. “I am trying to help as much as I can. There are migrant workers here who are really struggling to meet ends. The highway is also near my house so I can see people having a tough time. I feel I should help and I am doing as much as possible,” he added.

The issue of migrant labourers wanting to go home was once again highlighted on Tuesday when more than 3000 flocked at the Bandra station with a hope that the trains would restart. However, India has extended the lockdown until May 3 and the police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
