After managing to win the first of the three-Test series against Australia in Adelaide, Virat Kohli and his troops will now be eager to win the series when they play the second Test in Perth beginning on Friday. The pitch at the new stadium in Perth is as green as it can get, and given that Ravichandran Ashwin is injured, Virat Kohli may want to go out with an all-pace attack.

India’s pacers are at the peak of their prowess, but so are Australia’s. They will give a good fight to the Indian batsmen, but 1983 World Cup-winning hero Mohinder Amarnath feels that Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara can resist Australia’s pace and can be the main batsmen for the visiting team.

Both the Indian skipper and the Saurashtra batsman are technically very sound batsmen and always India’s best batting weapon overseas. Even as Pujara went on to score a century followed by a half-century in Adelaide, Kohli couldn’t quite wield his magic with the bat in hand.

Shikhar Dhawan’s absence

“This Indian team is very experienced, they won’t be afraid of anything, especially all this talk from the Australians about unleashing pace. They are high on confidence after winning the first Test. I think neither teams will have much idea about this new wicket and making predictions about a fresh wicket is always risky.

Their bowlers will, of course, relish bowling on a harder track as it suits them. They want to restrict the Indian batting by bowling short but if you have batsmen like Virat Kohli and Pujara who are technically so good then it won’t be of much concern.” Amarnath told India Today in an interview.

He also expressed surprise over the exclusion of Shikhar Dhawan, who could have come handy on the hard Australian wickets. “Both Vijay and Rahul are talented and you want them to give a good start. I think Shikhar Dhawan should have been in the team as on these type of hard wickets in Australia, you need a batsman like him,” Amarnath added.
