Former Pakistan cricketer and current coach of Quetta Gladiators Moin Khan has been under fire for selecting his son Azam Khan over other talented cricketers at the Pakistan Super League’s draft held at Lahore on Sunday. The likes of Fawad Alam, Awais Zia went unsold as none of the teams picked them during the event. The fans were not impressed with certain selections.

46-year-old Khan’s son has gained instant limelight for all the wrong reasons. He has been criticized for his body weight, which doesn’t look ideal for an athlete. Many of the cricket followers body shamed the youngster and called him names.

Azam stays in the family

The official Twitter account of the Quetta Gladiators tweeted “Keeping it in the family! Join us in welcoming ‘Azam Khan’ (Our coach’s own son) as our 3rd pick in the PSL Draft Supplementary order!!#HBLPSLDraft#PurpleForce #GladiatorsUnleashed.”

Moin said that his son has been selected because he is a talented player. He also added “Let’s wait and see if he performs well because then that will be the wise answers to the critics and in case he fails to perform then the youngster will learn from it.”

He said that it is not just his son but many talented youngsters have been roped in by the different franchises. And the promising talents are Pakistan’s own son. Regarding not selecting any players from the Quetta region, Khan said that it is not a political thing. He said it is a private franchise and there are no boundaries. Morally, it can be looked upon. But PCB plays a vital role. Cricketers from Baluchistan hasn’t featured much in the drafts and it is up to them. Khan added that Quetta not only picks players from Pakistan but the intent is to board international talents as well.
