The Australian cricketers have found themselves in a very unwanted position at the moment. The team members, including skipper Steve Smith, are drawing a lot of heat from the critics for their involvement in the Sandpaper gate in the ongoing Test series against South Africa. Different people are taking different stance in the case. Now, another Australian cricketer, Moises Henriques, has made a very strong claim in the case.

Moises Henriques posted a series of tweets to give his opinions on the case. He made a very strong claim that the Australian skipper, Steve Smith, could actually be innocent in the case. Henriques believes that Smith is apparently taking the blame on himself for the wrongdoings of others. He noted that Smith is probably trying to save the younger players like Cameron Bancroft.

Henriques explained his point claiming that the panic in the dressing room was perhaps very tense after the end of day’s play. Hence, to ease out the pressure from Bancroft, Smith decided to take things on himself in the presser. And what happened thereafter was there to be seen for all. Subsequently, Smith and David Warner stepped down from their respective roles in the third Test.

Here are the series of tweets posted by Moises Henriques:

“In my uneducated opinion, I dare say there was never a senior players meeting to discuss cheating – Smith made that up to take the heat of a young Cameron Bancroft not realising the outrage that would follow,” Moises Henriques wrote in his first tweet.

“Ps. Not saying no one was aware of Cameron doing it, just highly doubt there was a ‘senior players meeting’ to decide to cheat. I think it was the captain attempting to protect a young player. They had 10 mins of panic between end of play & press conference,” Henriques added.

“Hate it when my grammar is poor. Apologies, meant to say ‘take the heat off*’ not ‘heat of’,” he conceded in his final tweet, on a different note.
