Dinesh Chandimal has to be one of the most consistent batsmen for Sri Lanka who debuted in the last decade. He has shown it by scoring runs in countries like England, West Indies, New Zealand. But even when he was the captain of the side, he failed to lead from the front.

The urge to win matches should be the most in a captain. But when Chandimal would lead the side, he would be really defensive, often dropping himself down the order. With time, his form dipped as well.

He made a return to all formats after World Cup 2019 but it would be an understatement that he hasn’t lived up to his potential. You cannot think of a single memorable innings on his part in the last couple of years. It’s surprising how Sri Lanka persisted with him.
