Hitting a six is one of the most beautiful sights in a cricket match and one of the hardest tricks to pull off. As the modern game shifts more and more towards shorter formats, hitting boundaries has become a regular thing. Seeing batters muscle the ball out of the park is nothing new to a modern fan. Especially in the Asia Cup, as some of the world’s best Asian teams take each other on, the spectators have been treated to many explosive performances over the years.
Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly is the joint-highest six-hitter in an innings in the ODI format of the Asia Cup. Taking on Bangladesh in the second match of the Asia Cup 2000, Ganguly hit seven sixes in an innings and played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 135 runs.
Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has hit seven sixes in an innings in the ODI format of the Asia Cup, twice. Once against Sri Lanka, when he scored 109 runs in 2010, and the second instance was against Bangladesh in 2014.
Veteran Afghanistan batter Mohammad Shahzad is yet another batter who has hit seven sixes in an innings in the Asia Cup. The 35-year-old achieved the feat and became the joint-highest six-hitter in an innings when Afghanistan took on India in 2018, and Shahzad amassed 124 runs to his name.
Another name on the list is Hong Kong’s star batter, Babar Hayat. The 31-year-old has also hit seven sixes in an innings, however, he achieved the feat in the T20 format of the Asia Cup when Hong Kong took on Oman in 2016 and Hayat amassed 122 runs.
Apart from these four players with seven sixes to their names, there are seven others who have hit six sixes in an innings in the Asia Cup across the formats. MS Dhoni and Sanath Jayasuriya hit six sixes in the ODI format Asia Cup, whereas Najibullah Zadran, Suryakumar Yadav, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Virat Kohli hit six sixes in the T20I format.
