The Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League. The team always tries to retain the core group of players and management to ensure that there is a healthy environment in the franchise. It is one of the major reasons as to why the franchise has been doing very well every year while the others struggle on several occasions.

The Yellow brigade has taken part in nine seasons and there is only one man who had led them in each season. MS Dhoni has been at the top and has led the side from the front. He along with Stephen Fleming has been the key personnel in taking the side forward in each season. CSK returned after a gap of two years and did not disappoint the fans as the won their third IPL title. Dhoni rediscovered his mojo and his smart captaincy ensured that the Yellow army had a tournament to remember.

The X-factor

Fleming hailed Dhoni and his tactics and stated that the veteran played a key role in Chennai’s success this season. “It was Dhoni impact. It is very important. Dhoni does have a very strong influence and impact on players. MS’s (Dhoni) belief and confidence in a strong role for a player works for us. He has a strong ability to bring the best out of players. (Ambati) Rayudu is a great example, being in and out of the team.” Fleming said at a press conference.

The team has several match winners among its ranks as each of the players have stood up on different occasions to guide the team home. CSK’s success proved to the world that cricket is a team sport and you need different players to step up on different occasions so that the team is not over-reliant on one individual. The franchise did not have an Orange cap or a Purple cap holder but still managed to do well in the tournament.
