MS Dhoni, the former Indian skipper is one of the main reasons behind the success of Chennai Super Kings. He acts as a catalyst due to which the Chennai based franchise has managed to win three IPL trophies in 12 seasons. Albie Morkel, the former CSK player, feels that there are two main factors that are responsible for the success of the franchise.

CSK went through lots of ups and downs until now in IPL. They were also suspended for a couple of years for the franchise’s role in the spot-fixing in the 2013 season. Meanwhile, Dhoni remained the constant, who never left his team in the troubled waters. This is why he has a massive fan following in Chennai where people also call him ‘Thala’. Dhoni helped his franchise in winning the trophy in their comeback season that left everyone in surprise.

Albie Morkel talks about the importance of MS Dhoni for CSK

Now, Albie Morkel, the former CSK player opened up saying that Dhoni has so far played a major role in the upgradation of CSK. For the South African, Dhoni is one of the best T20 and white ball player. And, having him in the side as a skipper always puts a team on upfront. This will indirectly bring success for the team in the tournament.

“He (Dhoni) plays a big role. We all know how big Dhoni is in India. He is one of the best T20 and white-ball players ever to play the game; and if you get him as a leader, it is going to bring success as he knows how to get the best out of his players,” Morkel was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

Furthermore, the 38-year-old also recited that keeping the core players together is the other reason for their success. CSK have managed to keep their main players in the team for so long. Even their skipper is with the team since the inaugural season. It led them to attain consistency due to which they made to the finals on eight out of 10 occasions.

“It all comes from keeping your core group of players together for a long time and have the same captain, Dhoni, for all seasons except for the two years when they weren’t part of the competition. Consistency is their secret. Over the last few seasons, they have made the finals eight times out of 10,” Morkel added.

Albie Morkel recently came to India for the Road Safety World Series 2020 that got abandoned due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.
