The Asia Cup has been smooth for the Indian Cricket Team so far, with the finals against Bangladesh still underway. India have produced balanced performances throughout the series, both with the bat and the ball. The fielding has been impressive too, and former captain, wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s stumping has continued to impress in this tournament too.

Bangladesh opener Liton Das was crafting a tremendously well inning, but when on 121 runs, he was stumped by MS Dhoni off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling. With the stumping to dismiss Liton Das, Dhoni now has the record of the most stumpings in Asia Cup ODIs – 10 stumpings (now 1 more than Kumar Sangakkara)

One of the best wicketkeepers in the world

In the past few years, MS Dhoni has been one of the best wicketkeepers in the world by taking some stunning catches behind the stumps and his quick throws at the wickets are also amazing. At times, he collects the ball and throws it at the stumps without even looking at it. The precision of his judgement is beyond Stupendous. Throughout his international career, it can be difficult to recall even one match in which he had a bad day with the gloves, and that is what makes Dhoni an asset to the team, even if he is unable to wield his bat.

In February this year, MS Dhoni became the first Indian wicketkeeper to effect 400 dismissals. Dhoni achieved the feat during the third ODI against South Africa when he stumped Aiden Markram. In September last year, Dhoni also became the first wicketkeeper to effect 100 stumpings in ODIs.

Currently, Dhoni is fourth on the list of wicketkeepers who have the most number of dismissals in ODIs- 419 in total – 306 catches and 113 stumpings. The list is topped by Kumar Sangakkara who has 482 dismissals, followed by Adam Gilchrist with 472 dismissals and Mark Boucher with 424.

In 93 T20Is, Dhoni has 54 catches and 33 stumpings.
