For a long time now, former India captain MS Dhoni’s place in the ODI team has been questioned, given his form that is only declining with each passing year, series and day. But with two back-to-back half-centuries in the on-going Australia vs India ODI series, fans and experts are hopeful that Dhoni has found form once again and can carry it to the mega event which is only four months away. Another key batsman whose form matters a lot is opener, Shikhar Dhawan.
He got out for a duck in the 1st match and played some delicious shots in the second before failing to capitalize on a start. The series is evenly poised at 1-1 and India will be hoping to win it when they meet Australia for the third and series-deciding ODI tomorrow at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Both of Australia’s openers, Aaron Finch and Alex Carey haven’t been able to deliver in the series and that is what the visitors will be looking to make the most use of.
Dhoni gives confidence to other batsmen
Shikhar Dhawan, speaking to the press ahead of the third ODI, lavished praised on Dhoni, saying that the veteran cricketer brings in a lot of confidence in the team.
“It was great to see a good team performance in the last one day match against Australia. The way Dhoni played in both the games is really great. I am very happy that Dhoni is getting his touch back. A player of his stature, who plays the game with so much calmness, gives so much confidence to other batsmen. It is very important for us,” the left-hander said.
He was also quick to recognise Dinesh Karthik’s role in winning the second ODI, which was largely eclipsed by how Dhoni finished the game for India.
“Even Dinesh (Karthik) played a very good knock in the last game. So the good thing is that we got all fit and mature players which make us a strong batting unit. We have been consistent in our performance over the past few years and hopefully, we will continue performing well in coming years,” Dhawan said.
