Former India Test skipper MS Dhoni has come out in praise of the pool of bowlers the Indians have successfully managed to create. In overseas tours in the past, Dhoni has not been as successful as he would have liked, with most failures being pointed at the bowling attack of the side. However, speaking at Craig McDermott’s business project, Dhoni stated that the Indians have been trying to create a pool of bowlers for the past few years.
“The good thing is that we now have a pool of bowlers. It is something that we were trying to create for three years. There is competition. The more the competition, the better it is,” the current limited-overs captain said on Wednesday while talking about the Indian squad in West Indies.
Dhoni, who is a veteran of 90 Test matches in a Test career spanning slightly less than a decade also added that it was indeed a bonus to have players who could bowl quick, remain fit and ready for selection to the Indian team.
“It’s good to see a pool of bowlers who can bowl quick and are ready for selection. We have bowlers with all areas covered. If you look at the ODI series against South Africa at home last year, we were struggling to get fit bowlers to play. Of course, we need to be very careful about injury management,” Dhoni added.
“I think wickets will be slower in West Indies, but you never know. I think spinners will have a huge role to play,” Dhoni concluded as he announced his collaboration with former Australian fast bowler’s Craig McDermott’s business project.
