Ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) MS Dhoni has been referred to as ‘Thala’ (leader) by the fans of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The team has done extremely well under his leadership qualifying for the playoffs in every season they’ve played. The Men in Yellow have also won the coveted title in 2010 and defended it in the next season. However, the discarded Indian cricketer S Sreesanth believes that the actor Ajith Kumar is the only Thala in the world and not Dhoni.

Sreesanth has been banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing saga in 2013. Though he was later acquitted of the charges by a single judge bench of Kerala High Court. But the Indian board is not ready to lift the ban on him and the cricketer is still fighting for the same. He seems to be a huge fan of Tamil Cinema and no wonder he is the die-hard fan of Ajith Kumar who earned the title of ‘Thala’ way back in 2001 after his blockbuster movie ‘Dheena’.

I always believe there is only one Thala

S Sreesanth feels that MS Dhoni is not the Thala and only Ajith Kumar deserves the special title. “I always believe there is only one Thala. Not just in Chennai, but all over the world, there is only one Thala. I’m a huge fan of that Thala. I saw a lot of posters that said Dhoni is our Thala and similar things. But come on, everyone knows that there is only one Thala and it is our favourite Ajith Annan,” he was quoted as saying by Behindwoods in a video.

However, he has immense respect for the most successful captain of India and went on to say that he was honoured to play under him and win the World Cup in 2011. “Rest of them are at a bit lower level. We all respect Dhoni as the captain cool. I am honoured to have played under him,” he added.
