The Chennai Super Kings continued their sublime form as they made it to the playoffs in all the nine seasons of IPL they have played so far. Led by the iconic MS Dhoni, Chennai faced their last hurdle when they took on the Kings XI Punjab in the final league fixture last night. While CSK had already guaranteed qualification prior to the match, KXIP came in at full throttle seeking to grab the last remaining spot for the playoffs.

Put into bat first, the Punjab side needed to win by a margin of at least 53 runs or more to end in the top four. However, their top order failed to deliver and suffered an incredible collapse that left the away side reeling.

The main man behind CSK’s fine show with the ball was South African youngster Lungi Ngidi, who returned with impressive figures of 4/10 in his four overs, which included the wickets of openers KL Rahul and Chris Gayle. He also accounted for Ravi Ashwin and Andrew Tye’s dismissals, both of whom were sent back without troubling the scorers.

Following the victory, MS Dhoni was spotted sharing a light moment with his daughter Ziva. The daughter-father duo played around in the grounds as the fans cheered in joy.

Proteas speedster Lingi NGidi was the star performer of the day, returning with exceptional figures of 4/10. Other CSK’ bowlers also performed well to bundle out KXIP at 153.

CSK faltered a bit in the chase, but Raina’s clinical half century and MS Dhoni’s late pickings ensured that the southpaws cross the line.
