Veteran Indian cricketer MS Dhoni is one of the most popular cricketers in the world cricket at the moment. The former Indian captain recently turned 37. Despite being on the wrong side of the age cap, Dhoni still has it in him to be the best at the top most level of the game. He recently led the Chennai Super Kings to their third IPL triumph a couple of months ago.

Currently, he is with the national side in England. He is certainly a big name in the Indian side as the preparations for the ICC World Cup 2019 begins. The future will be quite interesting to see but remains totally unpredictable. On his birthday, it is definitely worth an attempt to see how the past had shaped up for the legend. Dhoni’s career took an upward curve ever since he blasted 148 against Pakistan in an ODI in Vizag.

In 2007, the Indian cricket team had a troubled time having made a first round exit in the World Cup. Months later, the T20 World Cup beckoned his way. And the selectors named MS Dhoni as the captain of the side. They had a lot of options in senior players like Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and many more. But they opted to go with MS Dhoni. When asked about the reason why he was chosen as the one, Dhoni recently quipped that it was perhaps because of his honesty.

‘Perhaps the honesty?’

“Maybe it was the honesty that I had, and my ability to read the game. Reading the game is very important, and even though I was one of the youngest in the team at that point of time, when asked about my views by a senior player, I was not afraid or hesitant to share my feelings about the game,” MS Dhoni told The Print.

As the history books read now, Dhoni led the team to the T20 World Cup title that year. Four years later, India won the ICC World Cup in 2011. In the year 2013, India lifted the ICC Champions Trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Well, whatever the reason maybe, the decision to elect MS Dhoni as the leader of the Indian cricket team was a master stroke by the selectors for sure. The world of cricket got to witness a masterclass leader.
