MS Dhoni, the former Indian skipper’s future as an international cricketer is currently the talk of the town. Nobody knows what the future holds for the veteran wicketkeeper.  However, there is one player that is in favour of Dhoni to play until the 2023 World Cup whereas many former players want him to bid adieu to international cricket. Venugopal Rao, the former Indian cricketer has added some fuel to it by saying that the 37-year-old should play the 2023 mega-event.

MS Dhoni — the former India skipper played his last international game against New Zealand in the semi-final of 2019 World Cup. It was a woeful day for Team India as they lost a must-win game by a close margin. The Men in Blue might have won that game if Dhoni would have been on the crease till the last ball of the game. However, in a brilliant effort, Martin Guptill darted an accurate throw to run Dhoni out. The throw from Kiwi opener didn’t shatter dreams of Team India but it broke the hopes of 1.2 billion population.

Venugopal Rao feels MS Dhoni is capable of making a strong comeback

Since the 2019 World Cup defeat, Dhoni is on a sabbatical and is often spotted while spending time with his family. Now, there are reports that Dhoni will mark his comeback in the upcoming IPL season. Amid speculations that the veteran is going to bid adieu to the game, Venugopal Rao has opined that he should play the 2023 World Cup. He is quite valuable for the team in any ICC tournament.

It is known that he has not taken the field in any international game after 2019 mega event upset. But, for a player like him, the comeback is not very difficult and everyone knows what Dhoni is capable of. He has won all the ICC trophies and no one is near him as a skipper or wicketkeeper-batsman.

“Definitely. He should also play the 50-over World Cup which will happen in India in 2023. He is a valuable player for any ICC tournament. I know he didn’t play after the World Cup semifinal last year but it is not difficult for him to come back. He is Dhoni. He knows how to handle these things. A guy who has all the ICC trophies. Nobody else is close to him as a captain or a wicketkeeper-batsman,” Venugopal Rao said as quoted by The Sportstar.
