The image of MS Dhoni smashing the ball into the stands at Wankhede stadium to hit the winning runs in the 2011 World Cup 2011 against Sri Lanka is still etched in the minds of one and all. Yet again, the best finisher of world cricket smashed a net bowler into the orbit to show one and all who the real boss of hitting sixes is.

The official Indian Cricket team Instagram handle was quick to upload the snippet of MSD smashing the big hit while riding on the analogy of the glorious incident which occurred six years back.

“Some things never change. When @mahi7781 is at the Wankhede Stadium, the ball has to land in the stands like it did in 2011 World Cup final. #TeamIndia” captioned the post.

Here’s the video:

Australians demolished the Indians in the 1st ODI at Chennai where the top order of India found the bowling of Coulter Nile and Cummins too hot to handle. Indians lost five vital wickets without adding many. At one point in time, the possibility of India even reaching a total of 220 seemed difficult.

That was when a young Hardik Pandya, who was about to embark on the series of his life, and champion batsman Dhoni saved India the blushes and stitched a series changing partnership. The Thala of Chepauk displayed briefly the Mahi of the early years is still there inside him with those massive sixes over covers and long off.

Prior to that, Mahi was on a record-breaking spree during the Sri Lankan tour with both bat and gloves also saved India a humiliating defeat against the underdogs by stitching a match-defining partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar to shepherd India towards victory.

India now takes on New Zealand for a 3-match ODI and T20I series. Yet again, the crowds would be looking forward to some blitzkrieg from the talismanic India batsman.
