MS Dhoni is yet to become an ex-cricketer and the supporters are wondering why he is not in the national team if he hasn’t yet quit. The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman is not too concerned about the ongoing debate and discussion around him and is seen spending his time lightly trying hands in other sports.

Days after being spotted playing billiards with a politician at Jharkhand State Cricket Association, Dhoni has been seen again – this time playing football in Mumbai. This time, he was seen in the company of Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor. During his football session, Dhoni was seen asking for the ball as he got unmarked and then received the ball, dribbled it and passed it on.

The Ranchi cricketer last played a game for India at the ICC World Cup 2019 in England. It was in the semi-final at Old Trafford where Dhoni almost took India across the winning line by belting a half-century when chips were down. But his heroic effort along with Ravindra Jadeja went in vain after a brilliant throw from Martin Guptill caught him short of the crease. The cricketer, who led India to win two world titles – in 2007 and 2011 – was in tears as he left the ground.

Dhoni has skipped three series after India’s WC exit

After the World Cup, speculation was rife over Dhoni’s future. His batting in the showpiece event had not impressed the fans and it was being asked why the newer generation would not replace him. India went to the West Indies after the World Cup but Dhoni, who holds an honorary position in the army, went for training in his army uniform.

Dhoni skipped the ODI and T20I series in the Caribbeans and then the T20Is at home against South Africa. He will not be available for selection in the upcoming home series against Bangladesh. In between, he had also gone to the US to take part in an amateur golf tournament.

While the Ranchi cricketer’s future plan is not clear yet, reports suggest that the team management has asked him to stay around till the T20 World Cup scheduled a year later as a back-up for Rishabh Pant, who is still not in shape in the limited-overs formats.
