MS Dhoni to produce Major Dhyan Chand's biopic, starring Varun Dhawan

Former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni is all set to commence a new inning in life, but this time as a movie producer. There have been talks regarding Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan playing the role of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand in his biopic. And it is none other than Dhoni who has agreed to produce the movie.

Varun is a successful actor now and has featured in various blockbusters such as Badlapur, Student of the Year and is freshly off from his success from his performance in Badrinath Ki Dulhania. There have been rumors regarding this teenage heartthrob playing the role of the iconic hockey player who scored more than 400 goals for the country.

Apart from scoring all the goals, Major Dhyan Chand won three Olympic Gold medals for India in three successive events (1928, 1932, and 1936). He was also awarded with the second highest civilian honour, i.e., the Padma Bhushan, by the Indian government and is now in contention to confer him the highest honour the Bharat Ratna.

A lot of fuss was made when Sachin Tendulkar was given the honour ahead of a legendary sportsman, as Master Blaster became the first in the country to receive the accolade from a sports background. However, there is no other better way to pay a tribute to arguably the greatest sportsman to have ever represented the country by releasing his biopic that will take his story to the masses.

“Cricketer M.S. Dhoni has acquired the rights to the film and might produce it. It is still not clear whether Karan will be co-producing the film, but Rohit is very much directing the film with Varun,” claimed a report from the Deccan Chronicle.

The theatrical adaptation of sports stars has been trending these days. It all started with Azhar where Emraan Hashmi played the role of Mohammad Azharuddin. Shortly, Sushant Singh Rajput played the role of MS Dhoni in ‘M.S. Dhoni- the untold story’. Sachin Tendulkar recently released the trailer for his biopic. Now all eyes would be on Dhyan Chand’s biopic.
