Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni showed his class with the bat yet again during the 3rd ODI against Windies at Antigua recently. The wicket-keeper batsman did what he is best renowned to do. He finished off the innings for India with a high. A score of unbeaten 78 off 79 deliveries with 4 fours and a couple of sixes help India cross the 250-run mark on a sluggish track.

The knock perfectly answered the questions of the critics who doubted Dhoni’s credibility and preparations leading up to the 2019 World Cup. Many believe that he should quit and the Indian team must groom someone like Rishabh Pant thinking about the longer run. But the way MS Dhoni is making his bat do the talking, things seem to be in safe pair of hands for now. Former Indian wicket-keepers also opine the same.

As per the quotes in Xtratime, former Indian cricketer and selector Kiran More noted that Dhoni’s contribution to Indian cricket is unmatched. He still has a very good cricketing brain going. Also, with the recent show, he proved that his fitness levels are top notch.

“Everyone is aware of Dhoni’ s contribution in Indian cricket. Recently I had noticed that there is a lot of debate with him passing his prime but I can guarantee there is yet any substitute for the great man (Dhoni). He still has a sharp brain and clear mind and recently is seen actively helping Virat with his inputs on the field. The biggest advantage for him is he can read the game from behind the stumps,” quoted Kiran More.

“The fact that he can walk into this Indian team as a batsman was once again proved yesterday. His fitness is immaculate and can match the young guns in the team. To me he should be an automatic choice for the 2019 World Cup. As far as I know him he will not cling on to the position of he feel he is not doing justice,” he added further.

Syed Kirmani bats for MS Dhoni too

Syed Kirmani, the former Indian wicket keeper, also spoke on the same lines. Even he noted that what Dhoni brings to the table remains very valuable. He noted that it is right to think about finding a replacement for him but remarked that even MS Dhoni himself would be thinking about the same thing as well.

“The sheer presence of Dhoni in the team boosts the confidence of the youngsters. He brings in a lot of positive energy in the dressing room. Just name anyone who can take Dhoni’ s position in the team straightaway. Dravid was absolutely right in saying that India should look at grooming someone who can fill in the shoes of Dhoni, keeping in mind the 2019 World Cup. With Dhoni relinquishing the captaincy, he can play with a lot more freedom now. But the important thing is what the team management and Dhoni himself is thinking about,” conceded Syed Kirmani.
