Former Indian captain, MS Dhoni is renowned in the entire cricketing world for his proficiency in power hitting as well as his prowess behind the stumps, while donning the wicket-keeping gloves. However, if one pays close attention to the snippets of MS Dhoni’s words that the stump mike picks up, it’s proof enough of the sassy persona of the man. A glimpse of his razor-sharp wit was seen in Friday’s ODI match of India vs West Indies, where Captain Cool left everybody in splits with his hilarious quips from behind the wickets.

Dhoni has been known to constantly chirp from behind the stumps with jesty taunts, sharp and curt orders and wise bowling as well as fielding advice, which generally results in a wicket most often than not. His relationship with Ashwin from behind the stumps in particular, has yielded innumerable wickets for India. In India’s third ODI against the Windies, it was Chinaman bowler, Kuldeep Yadav who reaped the rewards.

Three witty remarks that MS Dhoni made

Here are the three funny comments from the former captain that were caught on the stump mic:

1) Dhoni took a playful jibe at Ravichandran Ashwin, by saying “Ball dekho, Ash. Kahan dhyaan hai? (Look at the ball, Ashwin. Where are you lost?)” Ashwin had been so busy appealing that he missed an easy run-out chance.

2) Kuldeep Yadav had been bowling short assuming Rovman Powell will step out. Dhoni had words of wisdom for the youngster, saying, “Yeh (Rovman Powell) aage nahin badega. Andar se hi marega. (He will not step out. He will look to hit big from behind the crease.)”

3) When Virat Kohli wanted to use DRS but Dhoni knew it was missing, he said, “Leg stump ke bahar ja rahi hai. Review kharab ho jayega aur kuch nahin. (It is missing leg stump. We will waste one review and nothing else.)”

Harsha Bhogle enjoyed Dhoni’s comments as much as we did

Commentator Harsha Bhogle, while doing Hindi commentary said that, if he could, he would just raise the volume of stump mic and hear MS Dhoni narrate the entire scene from behind the stumps. It just is proof of the legendary MS Dhoni’s contagious wit and humour, and that he’s as good with his words as he is with the bat and the keeping gloves.
