Former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif, who represented India in 13 Test matches and 125 ODIs, reckoned that former Indian captain MS Dhoni would have been a good fielder irrespective of where he would have stood on the field. The cricketer also added that he would have also essayed the role of a wicketkeeper for India quite decently had he taken up the glovework.

Dhoni recently hung the boots to his illustrious international career of 15 years. Notably, he is one of the finest wicketkeepers to have graced the modern game of cricket. With 829 dismissals to his name, Dhoni finished next to only Mark Boucher and Adam Gilchrist

On Wednesday (September 9), Kaif took to his official Twitter handle to share a throwback clip in which he and Dhoni jointly effected a run-out to dismiss a batsman in a match against South Africa. In the video, on delivery by Harbhajan Singh, the batsman tries to take a single. Dhoni dropped his gloves and rushed to the cover region to pick up the ball, seeing this Kaif who was positioned at short leg, moved to the wickets, and collected the throw by Mahi to hit the bails.

Kaif tweeted, “I guess MSD would have made a good fielder no matter where he stood on the field…And maybe, I wouldn’t have been a bad wicketkeeper either”

Taking note of this tweet, Cricket analyst Sarang Bhalerao also narrated another incident where Mohammad Kaif was caught at covers by MS Dhoni in the final of IPL 2008 when Parthiv Patel was keeping wickets for Chennai Super Kings. Bhalerao wrote, “MSD caught you at covers in the IPL 2008 final off Muralitharan’s bowling. Parthiv was keeping wickets for CSK.”

Both MS Dhoni and Mohammad Kaif will be seen in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) which is slated to begin from September 19, with the final to take place on November 10. The toucanets will be hosted across three venues namely Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.

While Kaif will join the DC camp as their assistant coach, Dhoni will be leading his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings in a hope to register a victory on the T20 Championship for the fourth time.
