Former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni in the last quarter of his career keeps creating new records day in and day out and how! This time around it was wicketkeeper MSD who scripted a brand new record, as he became the first cricketer to complete 200 catches in India. He accomplished the remarkable feat in the 2nd ODI against New Zealand.

Having lost the first match against the Kiwis in Mumbai, Team India bounced back strongly in Sunday’s game at Pune. After having restricted the Kane Williamson-led side to a meagre total of 230, the Men in Blue cruised to a victory with 6 wickets in hand. Thus the 3-ODI series is currently placed delicately at 1-1.

36-year old MSD took 2 catches in Sunday’s game, the first of which brought up his 200th catch on Indian soil. First up, he dismissed Martin Guptill in the third over of the innings. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got one to shape away from the right-hander after pitching and it kissed the outside edge of Guptill’s wood, the ball was diving low but was a pretty easy collect for Dhoni. This wicket took the revered cricketer to the milestone. The feat was all the more laudable as this made the veteran, the first keeper to have completed that many catches in the 50 overs format in India.

The first wicketkeeper to reach the milestone in India

Overall, Dhoni ranks fourth in the list of wicketkeepers with most catches in ODI cricket. Having taken 288 catches behind the wickets, he’s only behind Adam Gilchrist who has 417 beside his name, Mark Boucher – 402 and Kumar Sangakkara – 383.

He went on to take another catch later in the innings. Ross Taylor was the victim this time as he was caught by Dhoni off the bowling of Hardik Pandya. Later in the game, he also contributed to his team’s cause with the bat as he scored an unbeaten 18 runs off 21 balls. His innings comprised three boundaries. Together with Dinesh Karthik (64), he wrapped up the match to take India home.
