Cape Town Blitz got out bit of a jail in their opening match against defending champions Jozi Stars. Dale Steyn’s masterful spell of bowling at the death bailed them out. The team, led by Quinton de Kock, is next set to lock horns with the Paarl Rocks in the first of Sunday’s doubleheader at the Boland Park. Last season, the Rocks managed to defeat the Blitz at home by five wickets.
The Rocks, last time around, made it to the Eliminator after finishing third with five wins from 10 matches. But their match against the Stars were washed off due to rain. Hence, the Rocks were knocked out on accounts of finishing below the Stars in the round-robin stage of the MSL. In the last edition of the T20 league, the Rocks scripted victory in three out of their five matches at home.
Pitch and Conditions
The track in Boland produced scores in excess of 200 and also turned with numbers in the 120s. But the team, batting second tended to have the advantage, having won three out of five games. Only on one instance, the team, batting first managed a comprehensive win. It’s an early morning start, hence, dew won’t come into the equation. The temperature will be around 23 degrees Celsius.
The Rocks have a fair amount of batting depth with the Hardus Viljoen and Isuru Udana, being no mugs with the bat in hand. The duo will also play a key role with the leather. Tabraiz Shamsi and Bjorn Fortuin will shoulder responsibility in the spin department. Du Plessis needs to bring forth all their experience. Veteran JP Duminy has been ruled out owing to a hamstring injury.

Quinton de Kock looked rusty in the last game and he will like a big score under his belt. Nortje gave away a few over-head wides and he has to find some consistency. Even Nawaz wasn’t at his best. Philander also bowled some loose balls. Magala and Steyn kept a check on the runs. Malan is in good form along with Linde and Livingstone. Moeen will wish to end his campaign with a decent show.
