Cape Town Blitz had an interesting start to their MSL campaign winning their first two matches which looked tough for them at a stage. In the first game against Tshwane Spartans, it was Mohammad Nawaz’s maiden T20 fifty helped them to post a defendable score. In the second game, Asif Ali’s quick-fire innings pushed the hosts out of trouble in the chase. However, both the Pakistan players will be unavailable for the next ten days for Cape Town due to the T10 league.

They will be losing the services of Dawid Malan as well but Quinton de Kock and their skipper Farhaan Behardien will be joining the team from this game. Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, on the other hand, won their first game comfortably over the Jozi Stars. They are filled up with some big-hitting players in form of Ben Duckett, Christiaan Jonker and JJ Smuts. Chris Morris and Imran Tahir’s inclusion gives depth to the line-up of the Bay Giants.

Match Details:

The 7th match of the Mzansi Super League will be played between Cape Town Blitz and Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at the Newlands in Cape Town.

The match starts at 7:00 PM local time (5:00 PM GMT) (10:30 PM IST).

Pitch Condition/Report:

Cape Town is suited for the chasing sides who have a superior record recently here. Five of the last seven Twenty20 games at this venue have been won by the team batting second which includes the SA-IND T20I this year which the hosts lost by seven runs chasing 173. Scores of 160+ are recorded regularly at this venue.

Probable XI:

Cape Town Blitz:

Farhaan Behardien (C), Quinton de Kock, Janneman Malan, Kyle Verreynne, Jason Smith, Sibonelo Makhanya/George Linde, Ferisco Adams, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dale Steyn, Anrich Nortje, Dane Piedt.

Nelson Mandela Bay Giants:

JJ Smuts (C), Marco Marais, Heino Kuhn, Ben Duckett, Christiaan Jonker, Rudi Second, Chris Morris, Ryan McLaren, Aaron Phangiso, Junior Dala, Sisanda Magala, Imran Tahir.

Power Picks:

Marco Marais bagged an 8-ball duck in the first game. He set record books on fire when he scored the fastest triple century in first-class history. Marais scored 284 runs without getting dismissed across three innings in the Africa T20 Cup this year that included back to back hundreds. He also scored a 17-ball fifty in the semi-final of that tournament. Janneman Malan has got starts in both the games and will be hoping for a big one this time around.

Best Playing XI:

Quinton de Kock, Ben Duckett, Janneman Malan, Farhaan Behardien, Marco Marais, Chris Morris, JJ Smuts, Andile Phehlukwayo, Imran Tahir, Junior Dala, Anrich Nortje.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

JJ Smuts picked three wickets in the previous game but bagged a duck opening the innings. His bowling is an added bonus along with his batting and can be considered as captain. The likes of Chris Morris, Anrich Nortje and Imran Tahir can be considered for multipliers.

Expert Advice:

Anrich Nortje ran through the Durban Heat’s batting in the previous game which could continue in this game as well. Picking too many batsmen from Nelson Mandela Bay Giants could backfire if they face him for the first time.

Probable Winners:

Nelson Mandela Bay Giants will start as favourites in this game given their all-round squad and depth.
