Faf du Plessis said that he expects Windies star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo to entertain the people of Paarl during the inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League. Du Plessis will be captaining the Paarl Rocks, which is one of 6 teams that are taking part in the brand new T20 league in South Africa. The tournament is set to get underway on November 16 with a final scheduled exactly after a month.

Over 200 international players expressed their interest to take part in the franchise-based tournament, the first of its kind in South Africa. The likes of Chris Gayle, Eoin Morgan, Rashid Khan and Jason Roy, all highly sought-after T20 commodities, are some of the overseas players who will be dazzling the month-long tournament. The experienced Windies cricketer was signed up as a marquee international player by the Paarl Rocks during the main player draft which took place last week.

Bravo brings an x-factor to the team

Speaking at the launch of the Paarl Rocks franchise on Monday, Faf du Plessis said, “Very happy to have him [Bravo] on board, I obviously played a lot of cricket with him at Chennai [Super Kings] all the years that we have been together. He’s a massive entertainer and people love him because he brings an X-factor to the team. He’s also a very successful player and has won a lot of trophies, with Chennai but also with his team locally in the Caribbean.”.

Du Plessis and Bravo have previously shared the dressing room while playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Most recently, they won their third title under MS Dhoni‘s leadership in their comeback year to the tournament after having served a two-year ban.

The Proteas skipper was also happy to finally see the T20 league materializing in his own country. He hoped that the tournament will attract more big names in the coming seasons. South Africa have struggled to get a T20 league started on several previous occasions, due to issues with management and finance. However, the MSL looks all set to get underway, and large turnouts are anticipated.

Du Plessis also added that Dwayne Bravo will not be available for the entirety of the tournament, saying, “Unfortunately, Bravo is only available I think for half the tournament, so hopefully for next season we can have all the international marquees available for the home tournament.”
