England ODI captain Eoin Morgan has found some touch in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka which the visitors have already sealed by 3-0 with a game to go still. The 32-year-old had earlier said that he is even ready to drop himself for team’s betterment during the upcoming mega event back home next year.
As the World Cup is scheduled to be held at England and Wales, England are looking forward to bagging their maiden title. The Former skipper Michael Vaughan believes that Morgan will play a crucial role for his team in the tournament as he has been averaging over 195 in the current Sri Lanka series.
“Morgan looks in as good a form as I’ve seen him for many years,” Vaughan said while speaking to BBC. With the 18-run win over Sri Lanka in the rain-hit fourth match, England completed their tenth consecutive bilateral series victory in the ODIs. They have been playing some phenomenal cricket and this team work and captain’s contribution could lead them to the top according to Vaughan.
He communicates well to the players
“Morgan is a very clear talker and communicates well to his players. He’s very relaxed but very driven. England are in a position where they are ticking all the boxes that need ticking.” the former England cricketer further added.
In spite of being one of the top cricket playing nations, England is yet to win a 50-over World Cup. They reached finals in 1979, 1987 and 1992, but lost on all the three occasions. In 2015, they were eliminated in the group stages, however, right now the scenario is entirely different as the Eoin Morgan-led England currently tops the ICC ODI rankings.
“England could have got rid of Morgan after the last World Cup but they stuck with him. He’s been the driving force behind this team. He has allowed the players to go out and play in this aggressive manner and be attacking.” Vaughan further said. The sort of cricket England have been playing currently ensures that they will enter as one of the favourites in the 2019 World Cup which will take place from 30 May to 19 July.
