Mumbai Indians registers their first win in IPL 2015: Former Champions Mumbai Indians finally came back into the winning ways as they notched up their first win in the IPL by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 18 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Chasing 210 to win, Royal Challengers started off slowly as their opener Chris Gayle failed to get going. His opening partner Manvinder Bisla scored a couple of boundaries and a six before he was castled by Harbhajan Singh for 20. Chris Gayle was let off twice in the first few overs courtesy Lendl Simmons and Lasith Malinga. But it didn’t hurt Mumbai Indians much as Harbhajan accounted for the Jamaican who looked completely off-colour before he was dismissed for a 24 ball 10. Virat Kohli too didn’t last long as he was dismissed caught by Ambati Rayudu at deep point for 18.

AB de Villiers walked in and smashed the balls right from the word go. Lasith Malinga came in for his second spell and had Dinesh Karthick caught by Unmukt Chand for 18 before Harbhajan returned and castled Rillee Roussouw for a duck. In the very next over, Jasprit Bumrah had de Villiers caught by Pollard for an 11 ball 41 and that dashed all the hopes of a RCB win. Iqbal Abdulla and David Wiese put on a 58 run partnership in the last five overs and that was enough for the hosts to cross the line. Wiese remained unbeaten on 47. Harbhajan was the pick of the bowlers for his match winning spell of 3-27 in four overs.
Earlier in the day, put into bat, Mumbai batsmen did an excellent job by scoring 209 in 20 overs. Lendl Simmons and Unmukt Chand laid the foundation with sparkling fifties. Simmons scored a 44 ball 59 and Unmukt pitched in with a 37 ball 58. It was skipper Rohit Sharma’s cameo of 42 off 15 that helped his side to a good total.
David Wiese was awarded the Hotstar player of the match while Harbhajan was named the Player of the Match.
Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 209 for 7 (Lendl Simmons 59, Unmukt Chand 58) bea Royal Challengers Bangalore 191 for 7 (David Wiese 46, AB de Villiers 41, Harbhajan Singh 3-27) by 18 runs.
