Triumph Knights Mumbai North East have won the inaugural edition of the Mumbai T20 League by defeating Shivaji Park Lions in a thrilling finale. Six teams competed over the last 10 days at the iconic Wankhede Stadium during which the young budding talent of Mumbai displayed their prowess. In the end, it was the team led by the veteran Suryakumar Yadav which won the tournament by just 3 runs against the Lions. However, this league has paved way for a lot of youngsters to come forward and stake their claim in the shortest format.

Batting first, Knights were reduced to 34/5 inside the powerplay overs on the night of the final and that is when the skipper Suryakumar Yadav strode out to the middle for his team. He took Parikshit Valsangkar with him and ressurected the innings before launching a deadly assault on the opposition. Yadav brought all his experience to the fore and played a blistering knock as his team posted a mammoth total of 182 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

The skipper led from the front as he remained unbeaten on 90 off just 42 deliveries with 7 fours and as many maximums. His partner Parikshit also scored 59* off 49 balls and played his part. Siddharth Raut was the pick of the bowlers for the Lions and returned with the figures of 2/11 from his 4 overs.

Thrilling chase

Shivaji Park Lions needed a brilliant knock from one of the their top order batsmen to be crowned the Mumbai T20 League Champions. They were well in the hunt courtesy their skipper Bravish ShettyAlpesh Ramjani and Hardik Tamore but all fell at the wrong time for their team only to give a sniff to Knights. Also, Atif Attarwala scalped a couple of late wickets which swung the game heavily in favour of the fielding side.

But Shivam Dubey had other ideas who never let his spirit go down and fought gamely for his side. He pummelled 22 off the last over with 3 sixes and a four but failed to connect the last delivery as his team fell agonisingly short of the target by 3 runs. He remained unbeaten on 33 off just 12 balls and surely won the hearts of the crowd present in the Stadium. Though it was some of the best death bowling from the Knights that had delivered them the victory and the coveted title.
