Sight-screens are an important element of the game of cricket as it enables the batsmen to concentrate on the bowlers. Nowadays, bowlers across the globe have come up with a number of variations and it has become paramount for batters to read them off the hand. Otherwise, they may land up in deep trouble, which may also lead to their dismissal.
However, it’s also important for the bowlers to spot the ball for the reason that at times the batsmen hit the leather straight back at them. A few times, they come at the rate of knots owing to which the bowlers don’t get enough time to react. However, the sightscreens are also a medium of advertising and a number of advertisements keep flashing time and again.
Kartik puts forth an important issue
In the meantime, Ravi Ashwin, the Indian off-spinner, reckons that switching on the sight-screens can be fatal for the bowlers for the reason that they can be blinded and the ball can hit them. He also mentioned that he said the same back in 2011. The tweaker also reminisced an incident when he was hit on the head.
Ashwin took to Twitter and wrote, “Said this in 2011 when I got hit on the head, finally @kartikmurali talks about how it could be fatal for the bowler if the sight screen isn’t turned off for the bowlers viewing. After all the bowler needs to see the ball too. #INDvsWI,”

Meanwhile, Murali Kartik, another spinner, said that he had been iterating the same from his playing days. He replied to Ashwin’s tweet and wrote, “I have been saying it from my playing days but guess as a Commentator it’s imperative that I talk about it.. Not only fatal also might miss out on wickets in the form of caught and bowled,”
