Former Indian spin bowler Murali Kartik provided his insights on the rising sensation of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw. It is no surprise that it is Shaw who has arguably taken the cricketing fraternity by storm in his first ever spell in international cricket.
While the absence of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag has hampered the Indian cricket team in the overseas test series’, in Prithvi Shaw they see the reincarnation of another quintessential Tendulkar and Sehwag. The home Tests against the Windies in October 2018 marked the birth of Shaw and a dream start to his career.
Shaw has been compared to Virender Sehwag, for a player of immense destruction that he is known for. Shaw has displayed the same amount of aggression, going after the bowlers from the word go. He has been compared to Sachin Tendulkar, for the pint-sized height but a batsman of immense talent who has made his debut and had it big, unlike Tendulkar, except whose debut had been an inauspicious one.
Shaw will be put to ultimate test in the series down under
However, Murali Kartik feels he doesn’t need to be the next Tendulkar or the next Sehwag as per his column in Times Now. He just needs to be the best version of Prithvi Shaw he can be. The series Down Under will be the making of Prithvi Shaw for the future that lies ahead.
Although against a below-par Windies team, Shaw announced his thunderous arrival and fittingly won the Man of the Series award, it is way too early to make an analogy with the former batting stalwarts or his ancestors.
Against a wounded Australian team but a more than capable bowling attack led by Mitchell Starc and his deputies in Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, the 18-year old will face his biggest challenge. Australian team even in their backyard haven’t had the best times, nevertheless, their bowlers in their home soil can be unpredictable, capable of getting into their batsman’s skin.
