Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman and captain Mushfiqur Rahim has been dealt with yet another injury blow during the ongoing tour of New Zealand with a new thumb injury in addition to the hamstring issues he had during the course of the ODI series. While the injury will certainly be a blow, it would seem quite clear that this is not the only thing on Mushfiqur Rahim’s mind.

Rahim was hit in the neck by a rising delivery from Tim Southee and was the second player to be stretchered off the field of play after Imrul Kayes. This also ensured that the 31-year old could not be present at the play on the fifth day to ensure that his side saved the Test match at the very least.

Dean Conway, the Bangladesh team physio, said that the finger injury is more of a concern for the think-tank. Conway would also go on to add that this was a hairline crack, something that takes a day or two to heal at the very least.

“His finger injury is worse,” he said on Wednesday (January 18). “The hairline crack that has been found is new. He will need to give more time for this injury.

“Doctors in New Zealand usually advise not playing for three to four weeks. In England, they advise not taking the field for two to three weeks. In that regard, Mushfiqur may need three to four weeks to return.”

The Bangladesh cricket team now find themselves on a losing streak and have to pick themselves back up to secure a win at Christchurch.
