Until a few days ago, there was no confirmation on whether Sunrisers Hyderabad’s star pacer, Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman will participate in this year’s IPL or not. The Bangladesh Cricket Board apparently wanted Rahman to get enough rest before the all-important Champions Trophy in June in England.
However, his availability for the cash-rich league was confirmed a few days ago. But Rahman will join the team in Ireland when they take part in the tri-series involving New Zealand, Ireland and Bangladesh, which means the Sunrisers will not be able to avail his services till the end of the tournament.
Rahman, as reported by The Daily Star, will leave for Hyderabad today. The youngster, who was awarded the Emerging Player of the tournament in 2016, may find it a bit difficult to make it into the playing eleven this season, because the current team combination, including Afghani leg-spinner Rashid Khan is performing pretty well.
He performed very well for the team last year and was instrumental in SRH’s maiden IPL title.
The only way for him to get into the team this season would be to replace an overseas batsman. If that does happen, then Hyderabad has to replace one of their local bowlers with a local batsman, but all of them are performing quite well at the moment.
Although he may not get into the team anytime soon, there is no doubt over the fact that he will play a few matches before resuming national duty.
Another Bangladeshi star Shakib al Hasan also traveled to India to join the Kolkata Knight Riders team. Shakib and Fizz were also ruled out of the team’s tour to Sussex for a ten days training camp, which is to take place to prepare the lads for the tri-series as well as the Champions Trophy in England in June. This year, Bangladesh will be a force to reckon with in the 50 overs ICC tournament.
