Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s toe injury has been a massive conundrum for their cricket over the last couple of months. He sustained the injury during the IPL and has missed quite a few international matches ever since. He was also sidelined for the three-match T20I series versus Afghanistan. The left-armer also didn’t find a place in the national Test squad for their tour of Windies.

However, he has been kept as a standby with a hope that he may attain the desired fitness prior to the second Test from July 12 in Jamaica. In order to assess his condition, the team management wants him to play in Bangladesh A’s four-day matches versus Sri Lanka A. The first match is currently taking place and Mustafizur isn’t a part of the team. The remaining contests start from July 3 and 12 respectively.

“Looks to be quite satisfying”- Mustafizur

“We want to have him a look against Sri Lanka A team in the four-day matches. It will help us to know about his condition while he can also have a clear understanding about where he stands as far as match fitness is concerned. Naturally, we will manage his workload but for us the major emphasis remains in seeing him in match conditions,” national selector Habibul Bashar was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, Mustafizur also updated about the status of his injury and sounded pretty confident on his recovery. Bangladesh’s tour of the Windies starts from July 4 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound in Antigua, the venue for the opening Test. The ODI series starts from July 22 and the Satkhira-born seamer would also be eyeing for a return to the limited-overs team.

”Naturally there is some pain as it was covered for a long period of time. But overall the recovery looks to be quite satisfying but as I am yet to bowl in full run-up can’t say much about it. First let me start bowling in full run-up and only after that can I have a clear understanding of my situation,” Mustafizur mentioned.
