India beat Australia in the first ODI by six wickets in Hyderabad to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The star of the match for India was Kedar Jadhav who made 81 unbeaten runs with the bat and took the crucial wicket of Australia’s all-rounder Marcus Stoinis which changed the course of the game.

India contained Australia to 236 in 50 overs as the visitors chose to bat first after winning the toss. However, India’s chase was hampered by the early exit of opener Shikhar Dhawan. The departure of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ambati Ryaudu in quick succession left the hosts struggling at 99 for 4 with over 100 runs still to get.

MS Dhoni, as always, steadied the ship with Kedar Jadhav and took India to a well-guided win in the penultimate over. The 33-year-old Pune lad was the highest run-getter for India in the game with the well-established innings which contained nine fours and a maximum.

The experienced right-handed batsman, who was involved in such partnership with Dhoni against same opponent a month ago, termed the Ranchi-born cricketer and Captain Kohli as the best chasers in the world. He further said batting alongside Dhoni is a learning curve for every cricketer as he reads the game very nicely.

When you have Mahi bhai at the other end, you just have to listen to him

“Recently in Australia, we pulled off a similar kind of a chase. I had that in the back of my mind. When you have Mahi bhai at the other end, you just have to listen to him. I just did that again today. I tried to learn a lot from him (Dhoni). MS and Cheeku (Kohli) are the best chasers in the game, I feel,” said Kedar after winning the Man of the Match award for his performance.

My bowling is all about reading batsmen’s mind

“My bowling is all about reading batsmen’s mind. I have two or three options with the angle. I tried to bowl stump-to-stump,” said Kedar.

“The best part about my bowling is, I don’t think like I’m a bowler, there’s no extra responsibility. I enjoy my bowling,” he concluded.
