Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar Azam has gradually made his name amongst the greatest cricketers of the modern-day era. Though he has excelled fair enough in the context of his batting, he is still trying to make his impact bigger as a skipper of the side. In the recent turn of events, Azam opened up on how he would like to follow in the footsteps of Pakistan’s World Cup-winning skipper Imran Khan.

It has to be noted that Pakistan was up against West Indies in the two-match Test series and lost the first Test of the series heartbreakingly. However, under the guidance of Azam, Pakistan stormed its way to a victory in the 2nd Test and levelled the series 1-1. The Pakistan batsman added that he would like to develop tactical brilliance in his captaincy and wishes to possess great aggression while leading the side.

“Captain is the one who should lead the team from the front. Every player looks up to the captain, a strong captain can lead the team to victories. So, I try to get involved in everything better for my team,” Babar Azam said as quoted by Cricwick.

“My idol is Imran Khan as captain. I have listened a lot about his aggression and bold decision-making ability. I always aim to become a captain like him,” he added.

Babar Azam and his men level the WI Tests 1-1

Talking about their Test series so far, Pakistan lost the first match of the series by just one wicket and Jayden Seales turned to be the hero of the match. However, Pakistan showed enough grit and determination to wrap the series on 1-1 as they won the 2nd Test by a huge margin of 109 runs. Chasing the target of 329 runs, the home side folded on 219 runs in their second innings on the final day of the game and handed over a massive win to Babar Azam and his men.

Shaheen Afridi was declared as the player of the match for his 6/51 and 4/43 in the first and second innings respectively. He also went on to become the player of the series.
