My sister's advice helped me regain my confidence: Jaydev Unadkat

A terrific performance for the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017 helped Jaydev Unadkat eke out a whopping amount of Rs 11.5 Crores in the auction earlier this year. Expectedly, the pressure of the price tag got to him and the left-arm pacer put up an underwhelming show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the last season. There was a lot of backlash which was expected and he couldn’t make the most of the India call-up during the Nidahas Trophy as well.

Unadkat, however, has accepted that he was putting too much pressure on himself. He went on to say that it was like an exam for him during the tournament. But his sister Bheera and his friend Shobha Putra’s (IPS Officer) advice has helped the cricketer a great deal. He is enjoying his game once again and admits that the price tag had lead to him expecting too much.

“I was taking too much pressure on myself. All that auction thing, the big money. I didn’t realize what was happening. The only thing which I manage to do well before the season was to get out of that attitude. I was expecting too much from myself and that is why I couldn’t do my best,” he said while speaking to the Indian Express.

I am on the top of the world

Jaydev Unadkat hogged the limelight once again recently for taking the seven-wicket haul in the first innings against Chattisgarh in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. He was ecstatic after the success and thanked his sister and friend for their timely advice which helped him in regaining his confidence.

“I am top of the world,” Unadkat said before revealing the actual advice. “baaki log hain na team mein (there are other people also in the team, right?). She told me how she deals with it but also said how she loves her job despite all the pressure. That love is important. It was simple things like that helped me. I realised that the feeling good is most important – that determines your approach and attitude,” he added.

With a brilliant start to the season, Unadkat will hope that he manages to regain his mojo once again and performs to the expectation in the IPL next year.
