Australia completed their domination over the Pakistanis on the fourth day of the Gabba Test. They knocked over the tourists for 335 in their second essay to notch up their third win of the ongoing ICC Test championship. Pakistan put up an admirable fight as Babar Azam sizzled with his maiden Test match hundred and Mohammad Rizwan scoring a valiant 95.

However, one thing that caught everyone’s eye on what turned out to be the final day of the Test match was when Australia’s premier spinner Nathan Lyon signed on former English captain-turned commentator Michael Vaughan’s back when the latter was signing some of the fans’ autographs at the Gabba. The video of the same was shared by Cricket Australia’s official channel which they captioned as “Got him!!”

Warne thinks Nathan Lyon can surpass him

Australias’s premier spinner and also their most successful off-spinner of all time, Nathan Lyon didn’t have much to do in the just-concluded first Test. Lyon, who has racked up 365 wickets in 92 Test matches, picked up two wickets across both innings but it was enough to impress champion leg-spinner Shane Warne on commentary. Warne, who is the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket feels that the off-spinner can break his record.

“He’s been a terrific bowler for Australia, he’s been fantastic. He’s still got a lot more Test match cricket in him. He’s 32 so if they play 12-15 Test matches a year and if he takes 590 or 60 wickets a year, in another five or six years, he’ll be number one.” Warne was quoted as saying by Fox Cricket.

While that will still take some doing, Lyon did register an unwanted record with the bat during the Gabba Test. The champion off-spinner now holds the record for the most runs scored by a batsman without ever racking up a single half-century; a feat previously held by current Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis.

While Younis had managed 1010 runs in 120 innings, Lyon is now at the numero-uno spot with 1016 runs in 119 innings at an average of 12.39.
