The National Cricket Academy aka the NCA has been a goldmine for the cricketing stars of the future. While the grassroots programme has always produced the young talents in India, the facility, situated in Bangalore has also been used as practice camps, a rehabilitation center for injured players and most importantly, help the players who are currently out of form.

However, recent reports suggest that the NCA may well be forced to move out of the premises of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium should the BCCI not be entitled to more land for expansion of the facility. Amitabh Choudhary, the BCCI’s joint secretary has stated that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will be shifted out of the city if the state government fails to provide land for its expansion by June 30. Issuing a fresh deadline to the Congress-led government, Choudhary, who is also the convenor of the NCA board, said the BCCI has been made to wait for years despite repeated requests.

“The BCCI has already been etched to the maximum and stretched to the maximum and the NCA members felt they have to look at other options instead of waiting further,” Choudhary told TOI after the NCA board meeting in New Delhi on Monday. Earlier, in August 2015, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur too had said the board was contemplating shifting the academy due the delay.

Choudhary added, “We are keen to have a full-fledged centre in Bengaluru. But the problem is, for the last 6 years we have been knocking on the doors of the government, asking them to provide land. We have already paid the money six years ago but we don’t have the land yet. India is a vast country and it shouldn’t be an issue to find suitable land for NCA in other states.”
