Nepal’s official T20 Cricket League to kick start from September 23

The first match of the tournament will be played on September 23 this year.

The inaugural edition of the Nepal T20 League will take place in September 2022. To be organized by the Nepal Cricket Association (NCA), the 20-over tournament will last for a month. The first match of the tournament will be played on September 23 (Friday) and the final match of the inaugural tournament will take place on October 22 (Saturday).

The announcement of the tournament was officially made by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Maheshwar Jung Gahatraj at a press conference organized by NCA on May 18 (Wednesday). According to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), a total of six different teams will participate in the first edition which will be held at the Tribhuvan Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

It may be noted that the Cricket Association of Nepal had previously announced the tournament, but the dates were never made public. President of CAN Chatur Bahadur Chand during the announcement said that he is happy and expressed his confidence that the tournament will boost Nepal’s tourism and business as well.

During the event, Sports Minister Jung Gahatraj said, “It gives me immense pleasure to announce Nepal’s official T20 cricket league today. It’s indeed a matter of great pride for all of us to see Nepal on cricket’s global map with its official T20 Cricket league. I’m confident that NepalT20 would be an excellent platform to realize our dreams of promoting cricket among the youth of Nepal and help Nepal qualify for the next T20 World Cup.”

“I wish CAN, our National Sports Council and Seven3Sports a great success in working together in close co-operation to make this dream come alive for the youth and cricket of Nepal,” the Minister added.

Meanwhile, Nepal were recently involved in a home series with Zimbabwe A side. The three-match unofficial T20 series was shared 1-1 between the two nations. However, the home side managed to win the three-match 50-over series by a margin of 2-1.
