The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) finally put a full stop on all the speculations that have galore on who would replace the outgoing chairman of selectors MSK Prasad (South Zone) and Gagan Khoda (Central Zone) in the Indian selection committee when they shortlisted the names of former cricketers in Sunil Joshi and Harvinder Singh with the former to serve as a rightful successor to Prasad.

The Madan Lal-led Cricket Advisory Committee interviewed the five candidates in Venkatesh Prasad, Rajesh Chauhan, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Sunil Joshi, and Harvinder Singh at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on March 04. The members were impressed with Joshi’s straight-forward approach and recommended his name for the chairman of the elector’s position.

Sunil Joshi looking forward towards working for the betterment of Indian cricket

Joshi will take over as chairman of selectors at a time when Indian cricket is grappling with chastening whitewashes in both ODI and Test cricket in the recently-concluded tour of New Zealand. But, the former left-arm spinner isn’t fazed with the challenges that are at hand and is looking forward to doing’ everything in his capacity’ to bring everyone on the same page for the betterment of Indian cricket.

“I know there are a lot of challenges. I have to take up the job formally first and see how best I can get the group along. I will do everything in my capacity to ensure that the team management and committee members are on the same page for the betterment of Indian cricket,” Sunil Joshi, the newly-elected chairman of selectors.

Apart from the recent defeats, another issue that Joshi will encounter is the Dhoni conundrum. The former Indian captain hasn’t played an international game since the 2019 World Cup but he still remains in contention as far as T20 World Cup is concerned, if Head Coach Ravi Shastri is to be believed.

With Dhoni’s issue being both sensitive and emotional, the CAC wanted someone who had a clear-cut approach towards the issue and was very happy with Joshi’s thought process. The CAC also revealed that they kept Virat Kohli’s strong personality s a factor while deciding the ideal person for the chairman of the elector post. “We had this (Virat) factor the most in our mind,” Madan Lal revealed.
