The mobile operations company OPPO had bagged the sponsorship rights of the Indian national cricket team for a period of five years. It was in the first week of March when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had invited the interested parties to bid for the sponsorship rights of the national side. As the things turned out to be at the bidding process, the OPPO Mobiles India Private Limited bagged the rights till the year 2022.
The sponsorship phase started in April 2017 and goes on for the next five years. Surprisingly enough, Star India – the previous sponsors – had pulled out from the bidding process. Now, the mobile manufacturing company unveiled the new jersey of the Indian team at a grand event in Mumbai. The unveiling of the jersey that the team will don in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy was held at the JW Marriott Sahar Hotel.
The overall look of the jersey is pretty much similar to the one that the national side was donning in the limited overs. The color remains to be the same shade of blue. A strip of the tricolor runs down the shoulder region as a new addition in the design. The sporting partner Nike has its logo embossed on the jersey along with the BCCI logo as well.
OPPO India is the phrase inscribed on the center region of the jersey. The golden stars continue to feature along with the BCCI logo. The fabric used for the jersey is said to be of high-quality fabric to ensure total comfort of the players on the field.
Going back to the sponsorship bids, the board had fixed INR 2.2 crore as the base price. OPPO will be paying USD 162 million (INR 1,079 crore) for the sponsorship rights in the five-year period. Also, as per the reports, the company has to pay INR 4.61 crore for the bilateral fixtures and INR 1.56 crore for a match in the ICC tournaments.
